John Hurst

John was born, raised and still resides in Southern New Jersey. Early on, he developed a love for the arts and in 1981 received his BME from Temple University. Music has remained a major part of his life as a student, performer, and teacher. After graduation, he branched off into the world of photography when he purchased his first SLR camera, slowly learning the different genres of the art.
Throughout his working career he continued his professional music work and kept his photography as a hobby. Given the opportunity to retire early John then began a 10 + year volunteer period where he donated his time, in a local high school, teaching both music and photography. He was honored with the title of “Emeritus” by the Paulsboro School District.
He was awarded “Photo of the Month” for a submission to National Geographic, Top 10 of the year status for an image submitted to a Philadelphia TV news station, and he has won several awards for submissions to local camera shops and historic sites.
With the formation of Flintlock Imaging, John looks forward to having the opportunity to work with his photographic partners Tony and Richard in their goal to provide their clients with quality imagery.

Tony Finan

A child of Philadelphia, who has always called the city and its environs home. Tony got his start in photography during his high school years, with a job doing novelty portraiture for several summers along the New Jersey shore. Given his start, it isn’t surprising that Tony was drawn to the strange and unusual aspects of photography.

A generalist by nature, Tony is equally comfortable covering a concert as a zombie crawl, an urban cityscape as an abandoned cemetery.
Fantasy and whimsy have always been a part of his life, having spent many decades working and organizing science fiction conventions and film festivals. This is reflected in both his choice of subjects, and his approaches to processing, from Philly zombies to WW2 warbirds, graveyard haunters, and much more. If it is weird, Tony will hunt it down and try to capture it.
This diversity of subject and style has led to Tony’s work being seen in such diverse places as Philadelphia Magazine and Philadelphia Metro newspaper, and to websites such as Nerdist and Business Insider.

Richard Owens

Richard was raised in Lower Merion Township, and he graduated from the College of William & Mary with a B.A. in History.
When he was young, he did not have an interest in photography, or any visual arts. He played sports, including lacrosse, for more than thirty years. He also coached high school lacrosse for over ten years.
Richard became a shutterbug after a disappointing experience in a cave in Aruba (think “Batman Begins”); he got his first SLR camera soon after.
Through the years, he has explored a variety of subjects including landscapes, wildlife, real estate, and forensic photography. But he gravitated towards sports and action, and he is currently a freelance photographer for a suburban Philadelphia high school league.
In addition to his sports images, he has been published in local newspapers, and national magazines and websites.
Richard’s biggest photography fan and greatest inspiration was his mother who passed away in 2017. Sometime after she died, he found a photograph of his mother when she was a member of the West Chester University camera club. She had never told him about that.
Thanks to his friends John and Tony, he has combined his interest in history with photography. This led to the creation of Flintlock Imaging, which aims to be the top choice in the Philadelphia area for living history and event photography.
You can find more of Richard’s images here.
